While San Diego may be known for its fish tacos, did you know the city is home to one of the most diverse and vibrant culinary scenes in the nation? With new, stylish restaurants popping up all over town, we’ve helped narrow down some of the best restaurants and bars where you can save money and snap some epic pictures for your Instagram!
1. Huapangos Mexican Cuisine (Hillcrest)
This Hillcrest gem has been serving up authentic Mexican dishes from their vibrant, hacienda-style restaurant since 2009. Owners Viri and JT have poured their hearts and souls into every aspect of the restaurant, from the food they serve to the decor and design that’s noticed the moment you walk in the door. In fact, the restaurant’s beautiful mosaic tiles and hand-painted stones were installed by JT himself! The beauty of Huapangos Mexican Cuisine lies not only in its dishes and interior design, but also in the rich family history behind it all.
2. Voltaire Beach House (Ocean Beach)
There’s nothing better on a sunny, warm day than dining out on a patio. With San Diego having arguably the best weather in all of the U.S. you can do just that all year-round.
Voltaire Beach House takes full advantage of San Diego’s sunny weather with its open air floor plan — perfect for when you need to capture all of that natural light to make your photos shine! P.S. cozy up by their fire pit with a cocktail in hand for even more great photo opportunities!
3. Kimball Coastal Eatery (National City)
Kimball Coastal Eatery is the vibe you need and perfect for every occasion, from romantic date nights and casual get-togethers, to watching the big game with your crew. Dine indoors in their newly renovated dining room, equipped with a full-service bar and multiple televisions, or our personal favorite, on their spacious outdoor terrace while you take in the coastal breeze. Their menu boasts classic American food with a twist of modern and exciting flavors — two of their most popular items are their fall off the bone pork ribs and their wagyu burger!
4. Snow Pops (National City)
If dessert is what you’re after, treat your sweet tooth to this family-owned shop specializing in all sorts of frozen treats like Louisiana snowballs, shaved ice and artisanal flavored popsicles. -- all of which are crafted for the camera! Customize your treat from an insane list of toppings to elevate your photos to the next level! And of course, don’t miss out on taking a snap in front of their giant mural or plant wall.
5. Tuk Tuk Eatery (Seaport Village)
One of the most popular places in San Diego has to be Seaport! This family-fun destination is bustling with vibrant colors, shops, art galleries and most importantly, a diverse selection of food & drinks perfect for multiple spots on your feed! Tuk Tuk Eatery is the latest to land in the mix and takes it up a notch with their adorable bao buns, bowls and boba teas. This small shop is nestled in the nook between Margarita’s Kitchen Cantina and SD Burger Co, but they’ve made it easy to find if you just follow the blue lines of the hand-crafted mural just outside! For the best views, take your food for a short walk just behind the building, where you’ll have stunning views of Seaport Village, Downtown, Coronado and the San Diego Bay.
